Eye Strain Symptoms
and How You Can Stop Them Today
Many people are getting eye strain symptoms and the main culprit is your computer.
Studies have shown that more than 50% of computer users suffer from some degree of eye strain pain and discomfort.
Perhaps the numbers are even higher if you just examine people who spend several hours a day staring into that bright screen.
My name is Bill Smith and I am a Commercial Writer. I was one of those people who spent excessive amounts of time reading, writing and researching while seated at my computer.
I had very bad eye strain back in 2008 and was worried whether I would be able to continue in my career.
Fortunately – I managed to find the trick to avoiding eye strain, which I will tell you about in a minute or two.
The Main Eye Strain Symptoms
As computer use is relatively recent there are a number of studies being carried out with a view to avoiding some of the more serious eye problems.
However, it has already been shown that prolonged stress to the eyes can result in body fatigue and reduced efficiency at work.
Additionally, there is increasing evidence that even moderately heavy computer use increases the risk of getting glaucoma.
The simple fact is – our eyes have evolved over the ages to aid us with long-sighted pursuits – such as hunting and suviving in the wild.
The current focus of our daily activities is much closer today – and our eyes are suffering badly from computer use.
Typical Eye Strain Symptoms are:
- Headaches during or after computer use.
- Eyes become sore and/or dry.
- Muscles around eyes can ache until they are given a good period of rest .
- Vision can become blurred or hazy.
- Eyes struggle to refocus after switching from computer screen to more distant objects.
- Inability to locate work area when eyes move back and forth between screen and copy.
- After long periods of computer use it can be difficult focusing long distance again.
- Occasional double vision.
- Colors sometimes become harder to determine.
- More frequent prescription glasses upgrades.
Our eyes are incredibly sensitive and delicate and we typically take them for granted – until they go wrong.
How I Stopped My Eye Strain Almost Overnight
For me – the answer was terribly simple.
I was getting unpleasant headaches most evenings after a day in front of my computer. I also experienced an aching around the eyes which only a period of rest and quiet seemed to lessen.
I had heard about text-to-speech software and most of the free ones and online versions were not suited to professional or prolonged use.
I found “Natural Readers” which is an easy to use text reader that reads text out loud with natural human voices – and I was immediately sold!
I liked the simplicity of use through integrated and floating toolbars, which mean you get your computer text read with one or two clicks while you sit back and listen.
Although this software had clearly been designed with ease of use for non-techy people – it also had powerful capabilities that was amply suited for my professional use.
[I also bought Text Aloud - a competitor - but hated the complicated interface - so it sits unused somewhere on my hard-drive]
But I was particularly struck by the quality of the voices on Natural Readers. They were human rather than the usual robot voices.
This was most important as I would be listening for large chunks of my day.

However – the main advantages of Natural Readers are:
- All the text on your computer – emails – documents in all formats – PDF – Word – Web Pages – eBooks and so on are read out loud to you by natural human voices while you face away from your computer and relax or get on with other tasks.
- With a couple of clicks – you can convert all that text to mp3 to transfer to your mp3 player, memory stick or CD and listen in the car, on the beach or wherever you please.
- On the Professional Version – you can also scan text documents or books into your computer to be read out loud by the human voices or transferred to mp3 to listen later.
- Similarly, Natural Readers will also read or convert to mp3 any text on a digital image taken with a digital camera.
